Amor Towles

American Writer and Novelist

Amor Towles was born in 1964 in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned his education at Yale University and later obtained a master’s degree in English literature from Stanford. His love for classic literature, especially Russian, would later be reflected in his writing.

Before dedicating himself fully to his literary career, Towles spent over 20 years working in finance, holding senior positions at an investment firm. However, his passion for literature never faded, and in 2011, he made his debut with Rules of Civility, a bestseller that captivated critics with its stylish depiction of 1930s New York. The success of the book allowed him to focus entirely on writing.

In 2016, he published his second novel, A Gentleman in Moscow, which became an international bestseller. The story of a Russian aristocrat forced to spend decades confined in the Metropol Hotel after the October Revolution won readers over with its depth of character, atmospheric setting, and subtle humor. In 2021, Towles released his third novel, The Lincoln Highway, which once again received critical acclaim, reaffirming his status as one of the leading contemporary American novelists.

Towles’ style is distinguished by elegant prose, attention to detail, and the ability to create vivid, memorable characters. His works have been translated into dozens of languages, and A Gentleman in Moscow has been adapted for the screen. Today, Amor Towles continues to write, remaining one of the key figures in modern English-language literature.
