Todd Ritter (Riley Sager / Alan Finn)

American author of psychological thrillers

Todd Ritter was born in 1974 in the state of Pennsylvania, USA. His interest in writing and storytelling emerged at an early age, although his path to fiction was not straightforward. Before beginning his career as a novelist, he worked as a journalist, editor, and graphic designer, experiences that shaped his strong sense of structure, rhythm, and visual storytelling.

Ritter published his early novels under his own name as well as under the pseudonym Alan Finn, but these books did not achieve significant success. A turning point came when he decided to start over and reinvent his literary identity. This led to the creation of the pen name Riley Sager — a gender-neutral name under which the author focused on psychological thrillers with elements of horror and suspense.

Riley Sager gained widespread recognition with the novel “Final Girls” (2017), which became an international bestseller and defined the direction of his future work. It was followed by a number of successful books, including “The Last Time I Lied” (2018), “Lock Every Door” (2019), “Home Before Dark” (2020), and others.

Sager’s novels are known for their intense atmosphere, unexpected plot twists, and for being, in essence, a blend of thriller and classic horror, largely inspired by the slasher tradition.

Riley Sager’s books regularly appear on the New York Times bestseller lists, are translated into dozens of languages, and enjoy steady popularity among readers worldwide. Today, Todd Ritter lives in Princeton, New Jersey, and continues to release new novels annually, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most prominent authors in contemporary thriller fiction.
