Adam Nevill

Adam Nevill

british writer known as a horror and dark fantasy author

Adam Nevill was born in Birmingham, England in 1969. Neville grew up on the works of classic horror authors and was interested in the darker side of literature from an early age. His early works were influenced by writers like Lovecraft and Shirley Jackson, as well as more modern masters of horror like Stephen King and Ramsey Campbell.

After studying literature, Nevill began his career as an editor and writer, but his first major success came in 2010 with the novel Apartment 16. This novel was the beginning of his prominence in the horror genre, and his next book The Ritual, released in 2011, cemented his success by winning a British Fantasy Award and the attention of a wide range of readers. The Ritual was also adapted into a successful movie in 2017, greatly increasing Nevill’s popularity.

The main feature of Nevill’s work is an atmosphere of alienation and claustrophobia, often accompanied by an exploration of human fear of the unknown and supernatural. His novels and short stories are imbued with suspense and themes that leave readers indifferent: from ancient mystical rituals to the horror of the unexplainable.

Today, Adam Nevill continues to write and experiment with the genre, remaining one of British horror’s most notable authors.

Lost in the Forest (The Ritual by Adam Nevill)

For a couple of years now, I’ve had a small tradition: once a year, I read a book by Adam Nevill. This year, I’m planning to tackle Last Days; last year, it was The House of Small Shadows, and before that, Apartment 16. It all started, of course, with The Ritual, which we’ll discuss today.
